THE PROJECT THAT IS THE START OF A VERY PERSONAL JOURNEY
Piedraescrita is, at first sight, Jerónimo Martín’s first album, the result of a period spent performing with the Jerónimo Martín Trío.
The group arose spontaneously within the context of Musikene (Higher School of Music of the Basque Country), where professional musicians who had sought to expand their musical training met and decided to play together.
The music that was going through the pianist’s head at the time was the focus of that meeting, which later materialised in a fair number of concerts that accompanied the release of the album.
The experience marks a turning point in the musical career of Jerónimo Martín, as it is a firm and clear commitment to place his creative activity in the foreground above all others. This is, therefore, the project that is the start of a decidedly personal journey.
Piedraescrita reflects the footprints left behind by these three musicians, after four years of life with this formation.
New compositions and arrangements could be heard in the live performances of the last period of the trio’s life, such as the concert offered at the Getxo Jazz Festival (2008), but they have not been recorded in any available medium.
The album was released in late 2006 thanks to the interest shown by the record label Errabal Jazz in Gipuzkoa.
After all this time, the trio format took a back seat in the compositional activity of the pianist, who continued to experiment with other formations.
