HELDU: GROW, ACQUIRE, ARRIVE
I want to introduce you to my latest work, HELDU, a project that delves into the development of an aesthetic that fuses classical music, improvisation, and various folk music traditions. Far from any clichés and seeking a balance between different sources of inspiration, I have tried to develop a personal concept. Starting from issues that go beyond creativity, in this latest work I have reflected on topics that transcend the purely creative, even addressing issues that I need to claim.
The lack of opportunities to release projects of this kind has led me to rethink the journey that begins with the moment of creation and culminates in communication with the public. If the trajectory of the creative process usually begins with the aim of publishing an album, in the HELDU project I change the order of the process, reducing the importance of recording an album. It will simply be the result of the process.
HELDU, in Basque, means “to arrive.” But it also means “to grow,” “to achieve.” I feel that the process that has brought me here has helped me grow as a creator, but I also want to reach my audience. I want to present this work to the public in the most direct way possible: performed live, in concert.
Therefore, I invite anyone interested in orchestral music projects rooted in folk music to attend the premiere of HELDU, which will take place on April 18th at 7:00 pm at the Bilbao Philharmonic Society.

Jerónimo Martín is an eclectic musician who works equally in the fields of classical music, jazz, free improvisation and composition. He has released five albums and composed music for the performing arts, film and concert bands. With his trio and sextet formations, he has performed at the Jazzaldia in Donostia/San Sebastian, the Getxo Jazz Festival and on other prestigious stages. He carries out intense research activity related to improvisation, which also extends to the field of music teaching.
