JERÓNIMO MARTÍN SEXTET + ARTEUS ORCHESTRA
The original sextet project arose in 2008, as a result of Jerónimo Martín’s work as a composer after his debut as leader of the Jerónimo Martín Trío, a group with which he worked for four years and with which he recorded his first album, Piedraescrita (Errabal Jazz, 2006). After this stage, he embarked on a new musical adventure in which he developed, in sextet format, his most creative facet.
The repertoire is made up entirely of compositions by Jerónimo Martín who, since the beginning of the project, has arranged his own music for this ensemble.
Following the path started with Piedraescrita, his music presents an amalgam of styles and influences that merge into a personal sound, which acquires new nuances with the incorporation of wind instruments.
The sextet is the laboratory where he gives shape to his most recent musical ideas, which sometimes leads his music into realms that go beyond the traditional limits of this type of ensemble.
The group is made up of musicians with solid musical training and an extensive career and experience and in the world of jazz and other genres, thanks to their participation in various groups within the Basque and Spanish scene. They have performed in the main jazz venues and festivals in the Basque Country and neighbouring regions.
In 2012 they released the album Quinoa (Errabal Jazz) and in 2023, Tokian (Errabal Jazz), together with Arteus Orchestra, made up of a string orchestra of 23 musicians and conducted on this occasion by Iker Sánchez Silva.
Currently, the sextet is formed by:
Jerónimo Martín, piano and composition
Alejandro San Pelayo, double bass
Aitor Bravo, drums
Rubén González, tenor saxophone
Jorge Vistel, trumpet
Gonzalo Fernández de Larrinoa, trombone
